1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I think I have learnt to stick to ideas. No half measures. If I get given a brief I instantly think of a really big idea and tone it down (due to time constraints/practicality) but this module has certainly made me keep my big ideas and push them further.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have mainly been searching through design blogs for visual insiration but I’ve also been going that extra mile and emailing people for answers that could lead to a final resolution. For speaking from experience I emailed a few successful graduates and asked them all the same question – “Why is it important to have fun on the course?” Their answers became the base for my whole brief.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My final resolutions and my visual design process. I never have that “It’s only first year” mindset whilst working. I always try to aim at submitting high quality / possible portfolio standard work. I think I’ve really progressed as a designer over the year and wanted the quality of my work to reflect that.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
Speaking from experience – There were a few guillotine errors with the motivational cards and because of financial problems I could not reprint these nor could I purchase the stock.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

Experiment more with colour – I had a specific colour pallet for each brief and justified why I chose the colours ie. Communication is a virus (free tea and coffee) I wanted the final posters to be reminiscent of the type heavy posters seen in the 1920’s so I chose the colours I saw whilst doing research but whilst designing the HAVE FUN product for speaking from experience I think I could’ve experimented and be more open with colour.

2. Do the work when given to me. This sounds silly but sometimes I get given a task and I procrastinate and say “I’ll do it tomorrow” but tomorrow never comes so I leave a lot of things to the last minute. This is to do with my time/project management. So my “second year resolution” is to react quicker to tasks given.

3. Make sure communication is consistent in group work.
During the communication is a virus brief I felt like it was me doing most of the work and taking charge. I often stayed behind finishing the work whilst everyone else went home. Communication is a key factor of group work so I felt like I could’ve tried harder to talk to the other group members.

4. More research.
I’ve gotten myself into a bad habit of doing hardly any research. Throughout this module I felt like I hardly gathered research with the exception of Speaking From Experience.
I do ask questions and look for answers but the problem is I don’t document it.

5. Document my progress.

Although I have improved since my last module submission I still think I need to document a lot of things in-between. Going through my blog I can see that one moment I have proposed something on paper and on the next picture it’s already digitally altered, printed and photographed. I need to start “screenshotting” some of my progress.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
