1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have learnt all about grids and layout, which is what my work was all about. I taught myself indesign ahead of the workshop, which I am particularly proud of. I also printed on newsprint, which I haven’t done before. It was a bit risky as the printer could jam and break because the newsprint was so thin. But the print came out perfect.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have more confidence to approach people and ask questions in order to gain significant research.
My final product was heavily research based. It was everything I had found out about beards. So my research had to be thorough.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My understanding of type has definitely improved. The last module was heavily type based and I have taken the skills I have learnt and applied them to ougd102. I have always loved type but I wasn’t confident enough to design something that is type heavy but now I’ve learnt to trust type and let it stand on its own.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

It’ll have to be my time management. I have realised because it was a 5 week brief I got too comfortable and put a lot of things to the last minute. I wanted to print my final product on newsprint but because of my poor time management I could only print it onto normal printer stock.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Work on my time management. This will help me get everything ready for print before deadline. It would also allow me to have fun with my work. Admittedly there have been times where I would work out of fear and It shows in my work. I could have the best idea but if I don’t allocate time for that idea then it won’t be executed well.

2. Blog more. Although I think I have done quite a lot of blogging I know I can always post more. I need to make sure I document each step instead of posting the finals. This way it shows I have engaged and understood what I’ve been told.

3. Gather research earlier. I understand research is ongoing throughout the module but I felt like I found out a few crucial things pretty late into the project.

4. No Half measures.
Because of poor time management I couildnt get my final product printed on newsprint. It affected the quality of the work and also looked like I did it at the last minute. I myself know this is not the case but other people may look at it and think it could’ve been produced to a higher quality.

5. Document my mistakes.
I also need to document my mistakes. I made a few errors on this module Printing to the wrong size etc. But I have since learnt from them mistakes but I have no evidence to back up the process.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
