1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I’ve learned how to communicate words whilst being restricted to one typeface or one letter, so I’ve learned to work with limitations. I’ve also learned the importance of craft and how some of the manual methods once thought dead, are very much alive.
2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have used to traditional methods of research and looked at research in book form but I have also turned to the internet for research. Some of the best stuff I saw/used was from unknown designers.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
Good mark making, Responses to my research. Trying out quite a large idea before dismissing it in the end. This sounds negative and perhaps a waste of time but I had the idea of using “acetate” For a while and it was worth trying out and putting my head at ease.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
Not enough documentation on blogs. I learned a great deal but sadly not a lot is evidenced. Weak organisation – Being dyslexic affects my organisation skills and affects my work.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
Document more/blog. 1. Keep drawing. When working on “What is a line” I noticed that I had lost my drawing skills or they were significantly worse. constantly improve my drawing skills. 2. Look at more designers. My final piece for what is a line is a direct response to Michael Craig Martin, he was one of the first designers I looked at for the brief and I fell in love with his work without looking at more designers. I think looking at more designers would broaden the range of visuals for the brief. 3. Plan things properly. It’ll make me less stressed when it came to the Vis Lang sessions 4. Be more experimental and creative – this falls into the research one but I do need to try out a broad range of mark making techniques before deciding on my first idea. 5. Consider the audience of my work.
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | |
Attendance | x | ||||
Punctuality | x | ||||
Motivation | x | ||||
Commitment | x | ||||
Quantity of work produced | x
Quality of work produced | x
Contribution to the group | x
The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible. |
